BLACK HISTORY MONTH

LIST OF ACTIVITIES AND PHOTOS

Activities: 2nd Week of February Feb. 9th -13th

Monday: A literary piece is read (poem, speech or lines from a play) and students are asked to identify the author (1st person to come to the office with correct answer wins a prize.)

 

Tuesday: Students/Teacher recite original poetry on what black history month means to them or what does being a black in today's society mean to them.

Wednesday:   Music that expresses our African roots- Jazz, Blues, Negro Spirituals, Chant and Rap. Played in the morning 8:00 to 8:05 and again at lunchtime 11:30 to 11:45

 

Thursday: Play a famous speech of one of the African American heroes who will be replicated in attire tomorrow by a student.

 

Friday: Guess who~  Students will be dressed to look like a famous African American and students will have to identify who they are at  lunchtime (a prize will be awarded to the 1st person to come to the main office and identify one of the famous five.

Activities Week Three: Feb. 17 to 20th

Tuesday at Lunchtime Poetry Competition in the auditorium. Prizes to be awarded to winners.

Tuesday: Student presents poetry presentations and music renditions 8-8:10 via the intercom system.

 

Wednesday: Snippets continue and historical facts in the morning / music at lunchtime

 

Thursday : Open Day for any department to participate in the morning or lunchtime presentations. Contact Ms. Robinson or Ms. Sarauw in Social Studies Dept. ext.4528

Friday: at Lunchtime Drama Production in the auditorium (Ms. Turner in charge)




Activities Week Four of Feb. 23rd to 27th; Grand Finale

Monday: Poetry and Musical rendition via the intercom   ( Early Morning and Lunchtime )

 

Tuesday:  Snippets of Blacks Historical Facts   (Early Morning and Lunchtime)


 

Wednesday: 8 :00- 8:10 Snippets continue;

2nd Period - Drama production and Afro-Hispanic Production to include Dance, Poetry and Song. Classes Sign Up required. Production by Mrs. Crooke and Ms. Stacy Turner

 

Thursday: Open day for any department to present a black history presentation Contact main office.

 

Friday: African Dress up Day and Grand Celebration at Lunchtime (location- around the flagpole) activities to include: singing of the Black National Anthem, Outdoor lunch, Jazz Band Performance, Choir Performance, Modeling of African Attire, Art Exhibit and Poetry recital.
