Students are requested to consider carefully the selection of their courses. The selection of a career path ensures that students will be enrolled in the courses needed for graduation in that area. Additional electives will be selected to complete the course of study while in high school. Ninth, tenth and eleventh graders are expected to take eight classes per year, four each semester. Twelfth graders will take at least six classes. Since a great deal of time and effort go into planning of courses, students are expected to continue in and complete the courses selected. No course changes will be made without the mutual agreement of the parents, counselors, teachers and the principal. Students may initiate a change request for the next year and have up until school closes in June of the previous school year to request such a change. Schedules will be distributed during the week prior to the opening of school in August. Adjustments, mainly addition of courses, must be made during that week. After school begins, no requests for changes will be entertained and courses can only be dropped with permission from the principal. Students dropping a course once school begins will receive an ' F ' grade for the course regardless of the reason for dropping the course. NATIONAL COLLEGIATE ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION (NCAA) Students interested in applying for scholarships at colleges and universities must meet specific NCAA requirements to be eligible. Students must also take the Scholastic Aptitude Test and achieve a total combined score of 840. (Or ACT score of 18). Score requirements may change as per NCAA requirements. SCHOLARSHIPS Numerous scholarships from the public and private sources are available to qualified applicants. Students may be required to meet specific criteria based on achievement in scholastics, athletics, leadership, extra-curricular activities, community involvement, interests, residency, need, and /or special talent. Scholarship applications and information may be obtained during the child's senior year from his/her counselor. |
